With physical exams, our final orphan court appointment, and multiple US embassy visits on the the schedule for next week, we took the opportunity to see some more of this beautiful country today.
After a one hour train ride from Riga to the picturesque town of Sigulda (most Latvians make a trip here this time of year to take in fall colors), we didn't let the steady rain keep us from touring Turaida Castle. We learned much about Latvian history during our few hours at the castle. Elizabeth was able to collect a lot of information on the Livonian_Order for her school project on medieval Latvia.
After a pizza lunch, we took Latvia's only cable car over the Gauja River. We were able to take in some amazing scenery as the leaves are just starting to turn. After a quick run back to catch the train, we had a light dinner, watched Ratatouille (...after all, Riga is called the Paris of the North), and called it a night. It was a good day...
While we ended up taking 452 pictures today, we have narrowed this blog post to only 43 photos. Enjoy! ...if you have the time.
Beautiful! And the scenery is nice, too.
