Farewell Līkumi

Following our court hearing today, we went with Irena to say her final good-bye's to her 'children's home' (which is what orphanages are referred to in Latvia)

Irena's children's home is called Līkumi.  It'a about a 2 hour drive from Riga, where we are staying.
We learned from her director today that these grounds were established in 1938,
originally by the Red Cross.

We spent a nice hour there visiting with the director and staff and hearing about the history of the orphanage.  We were encouraged to hear a few stories of Irena's time there and it was obvious to us that she was well cared for and loved by the staff.

It was a beautiful fall day to take in these gorgeous grounds,
you'll see the Daugava River in the background.

Irena's artwork
This was part of a beautiful display in one of the hallways where the children displayed fall scenes and 'sculptures' made from pumpkins, carrots and potatoes.

One of Irena's main 'teachers' in the children's home.  You could tell they were very close and it was a bitter-sweet farewell, she is happy that Irena now has a family and she will miss her very much.

  1. Juris is a great director. We had a great time with him this summer. Be praying for him. I pray that he will become a Christian. I am already looking forward to what God is going to do at that orphanage this next summer when we return!
