What day are you coming?

Less than 24 hours ago we were rushing off to O'hare to board our flight to Riga, Latvia.  In some ways we had waited so long and yet at the same time it seemed that in the blink of an eye we were on our way!

I am now sitting in the living room of our apartment in 'Old Riga'.  It's lovely and just right for us for this stay.

In the afternoon rain we had a quick walking tour of our new neighborhood ... there is nothing we could need that is not a short walk from our place.

Our correspondence with Irena has been sparse and simple as of late.  It always includes the one question she has for us, "What day are you coming?" We were unable to speak with Irena before we arrived, so we emailed her just Sunday with the exciting news that we are NOW coming and see will see her on the day of October 3!  We're coming!  We're here!

I asked her if she needed anything, she replied, "new shoes, one jeans and sum candy!"  Got it!

As I take in our apartment, our neighborhood, and contemplate the hours and days ahead my heart is full ... it's overflowing...

I am beyond grateful to be here .. to see how God has worked in our hearts to bring us here, how He has provided in countless ways to get us here, the amazing family and friends he has blessed us with and how their support has literally held us up and brought us to this very spot ...

I cannot help but think about the life changing moments that lie ahead of us in the very hours and days to come ... what a gift.

  1. It is hard to believe that time has actually come. All your hard work with the Lord providing all the way has come to this day of fruition---bringing Irena in to her new home! My heart is full of praise for God. Enjoy!

  2. I am thrilled to see these pictures! I have meet Irena and spent time with her at Camp Hope (Summer 2011) and at Likumi (Summer 2012). I absolutely adore her, as I'm sure you do, and was thrilled for her and her 'new family' when she told me this July that she was 'going to America'.
Will you continue to update this blog? I'd love to see her smiles as she enjoys so many new experiences!
I hope it's ok that I contacted you.
Please tell Irena that I said hello and that I am so excited for her!
